Sir Bono Prostituting Africa For Motorola
June 8, 2007
I just watched the execrable Bono on NBC News, being interviewed in relation to Africa, where he affected great sincerity in describing the place as one dark and hopeless human catastrophe. His panacea, however, was still charity. The only criticism he offered of the G8 leaders was that they aren’t doling enough out. But then came the emotional highlight:
“America is changing”, Bono offered.
My interest was piqued — especially since he added that what he is about to divulge is “good news in a time where there is no good news”. I naturally anticipated the man recently titled ‘Sir’ to overwhelm me with his political insight.
“Because they are buying Gap t-shirts and Motorola phones”
“Brave companies” they both are, he assured the audience.
All of them of course carry his (Red) label, which he spent $100m promoting, only $18m from whose profits actually went to NGOs working in Africa.
Yes, America is changing as people have begun buying Gap and Motorola. Imagine what will happen the day they add Nike to the basket?
Revolution!
