Sir! No Sir! – The GI Revolt

June 25, 2008

Sir! No Sir! A film on GI resistance during the Vietnam war where ordinary soldiers began to refuse orders and fragged (killed) their own officers.  I was reminded of this excellent documentary recently when Dahr Jamail was discussing similar trends in Iraq – instead of carrying out ‘search and destroy’ missions soldiers are doing ‘search and avoidance.’

Sir!  No Sir! tells the long suppressed story of the GI movement to end the war in Vietnam. This is the story of one of the most vibrant and widespread upheavals of the 1960’s- one that had a profound impact on American society yet has been virtually obliterated from the collective memory of that time.
