btw, the myth of Masada makes for a fitting title. The ideological origins of Zionism in German Romanticism--shared with Nazism--were also explored by the great cultural historian, George Mosse. His insights into the importance of a "cult of the Fallen Hero" and a "Sacred Mountain" for nationalists of this stripe remain valid:

The symbols of man's domination and individuality suffuse the myth of war. Mountains as "sacred mountains" (like the Kyffh¤user in Germany, for example) had long symbolized the nation, as well as human willpower, simplicity, and innocence. But now during the war they stood above all for revitalization of the moral fiber of the Volk and its members. Mountains had not always served this function. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries they had been strong symbols of individual liberty, but they had also come to symbolize national liberation, and it was this aspect of mountain magic which, as we shall see, became predominant during the war.

In case anyone's interested they can listen to Lecture #13 in this series of audio lectures recorded in 1982 in which Mosse talks about both Kyffh¤user and Masada as focusing devices for nationalist zeal.

Someone needed to remind the fourth-rate representatives in the Knesset that Bush's grandfather actually bankrolled the Nazis.

Old Prescott Bush was taken to court under Trading With Enemy legislation and then and only then did he desist from supplying and financing the likes of Krupps and other Nazi businesses including those actually involved in the profiting on the back of the Jewish extermination camps.

It would take a fourth-rate intellect like those in the Knesset not to to have already made themselves aware of these facts from the Bush family history.

What a singularly unedifying spectacle Bush the baboon must have cut in front of his equally vacuous audience.

It certainly will stand as further evidence of the wholly fatuous 60th anniversary celebrations the US and its Bloated Banana Republic ally have chosen to promote.

Let's hope it's the last cynical appropriation of history in which these rogue states will engage before Palestine is restored to its rightful owners.
