Stop JNF Fund-Raising for Ethnic Cleansing

The Israeli historian Ilan Pappe has called the JNF Israel’s main agency of ethnic cleansing (see the excellent documentary on JNF complicity war crimes). Yet in UK it retains charitable status. While in Apartheid South Africa 87% of the land was off limits to non-whites, in Apartheid Israel 93% is unavailable to the non-Jews. That is because through its control of half the seats on the Israeli Land Administration, its racist charter prevents any non-Jew from purchasing or leasing land under its control. Today it holds a fundraiser in the heart of Glasgow. It must be stopped. Here’s a message from the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

The Israeli Ambassador, Ron Prosor, will join assembled guests at the Glasgow Hilton on Sunday March 9th to hear Goldie Hawn on ‘Laughter is the Best Medicine’. Truly sick humour as Israel’s medieval siege of Gaza notches up its hundredth dead Palestinian due directly to denial of access to medical care. All Gaza’s ambulances stopped on Feb 19th due to the Israeli-Egyptian blockade on fuel supplies. Israel is deliberately intensifying the suffering of the Palestinians, moving from ethnic cleansing to mass killing.
Goldie Hawn is speaking to raise funds for the JNF to buy land in Israel/Palestine which Arabs will be denied the right to lease or benefit from. Tell Goldie Hawn:-
Gaza has no medicines & no laughter
The JNF (Jewish National Fund) is the main instrument of Israel’s segregated system of land control, privileged Jewish-only residential areas, and Arab ghettoes. The JNF acquires land in Israel/Palestine openly for the benefit of Jews-only.
Land under direct JNF control: 13% of all the land in 1948-67 Israel
Land under JNF management 80%
Non-Jewish Israeli citizens 20%
Land non-Jewish Israelis may live on 7%
The JNF is also complicit in war crimes by running projects and settlements in areas illegally occupied by Israel.
Gordon Brown is JNF Patron. He told the Labour Party conference: “We all remember the biblical saying ‘suffer little children to come unto me’. No Bible I have read says ‘bring just some of the children’”. Hypocrite Brown! The JNF openly says: ‘Jewish children only – Arabs off JNF land!’

Picket against Rudd and the United Israel Appeal

On March 12, Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will be putting a motion supporting the 60th anniversary of “Israeli Independence Day.” A day marking the displacement of 750,000 Palestinian people from their homes. The Australian government continues to support Israel despite its constant human rights abuses, killings and the occupation of Palestinian land.
Only 6 Days after Kevin Rudds motion to Parliament the Prime Minister is addressing the United Israel Appeal’s (UIA) Campaign Opening Gala Dinner. The $90 a head dinner and the pledges on top of that are beings used to support the UIA’s work in displacing the remaining local Palestinian population with Jews from overseas. The UIA a sister organisation of the Jewish National Fund uses its money to support the illegal settlement projects in the West Bank as well as buying up land in Israel to be sold to Jews only.
In 2006 the the Australian UIA raised 42.5 million dollars, making Australia the largest donor per capita to the UIA.
Joining Kevin Rudd at the dinner will be the Israel’s Minister of Welfare and Social Services Isaac Herzog and an Israeli Army Band.
Help us picket this outrageous event, to demand an end to the occupation of Palestine, the removal of Israel’s Jewish only settlements and an end to the siege of Gaza.
