Charity Begins at Home

So much concern has been shown in the West in recent years for the plight of women in the Muslim world that feminists have actively supported aggressive wars against sovereign countries. Presumably they want to bring the same rights to the Afghan, Iraqi or Somali woman enjoyed by an American or a Brit. Just yesterday the main story on MSN Video was the chain of American restaurants where people have their Sushi off naked women. Very dignified, since the woman was actually referred to as a ‘model’. Now we see yet another right enjoyed by American women. For some reason I am not very sure if these rights should be introduced in the Muslims world. But maybe I’m just an unreconstructed misogynist from a premodern patriarchal culture.
You most probably didn’t hear about this, but imagine the headlines had the same thing happened in a Muslim country? Where are those Colonial Feminists?

What people being brutalized by their US gaolers?
These same gaolers caught on camera seeming utterly indifferent to their suffering?
Who’d have thought it?
Well, certainly no-one living in Mexico,Central or S.America or anyone living in the US Arc of Crisis zone across the Middle East,or with long memories of the brutal US interventions in SE Asia would find
anything remotely out of character in this report.
They might wonder why people in the West had suddenly discovered just what a brutal and cruel people Americans generally are but beyond that there’d be few raised eyebrows.
Meanwhile the vast majority of Americans and Brits will probably,in their media-saturated mind-boggle, be asking why some viewers would find the victim’s suffering disturbing.I mean the authorities were extremely brave under the circumstances weren’t they?
For all they knew they were dealing with a suicide bomber and their lives were under threat.Really the police need more power with the very real terrorist threat and all……
Livingstone would have defended MPS and Chief Blair to the hilt if this had happened on the London Underground. And we shouldn’t be in any doubt that the tabloid press would have smeared the victim as someone who had been making suspicious mobile calls prior to her arrest, that she had been seen jumping the barrier etc.
It would probably have been left to Boris Johnson to remind Livingstone of women’s rights under the law etc….
Maybe she should have paid her congestion fine, parking tickets,t.v.tax,car insurance, poll tax-I mean her ilk make it more expensive for everyone else.
Makes you sick don’t it?

“When asked to list what they found most difficult at work, prison staff nominated: “When policies and procedures override humanity, there is inconsistency in the way that procedures are applied, people take short cuts.”
