The stuff Bremner mentions in this sketch re-British/CIA involvement in the 1953 coup against Mossadeh is pretty well-known.
Mossadegh’s determination to use his country’s oil resource for the benefit of the national economy obviously meant he had to be removed.
The British means of achieving his removal had been cultivated over centuries and centred on the British elite’s capacity to garner intelligence on Persian Gulf markets.Such intelligence would be used to facilitate the undermining of the Shah’s rule in the 1978-79 period.
For two centuries the British controlled the smuggling and drug trade in the Gulf as a way station between Asia’s Far East Golden Triangle and the West.Via such channels arms and ammunition were smuggled into Iran to suit London’s purposes in 1953 and 1979.
The role of the BBC in the 1953 coup is well known;less so is the role it played in the Khomeini revolution.
During 1978 its correspondents, often part-time stringers for Khomeini, sometimes British nationals employed by the British Secret Service acted in their nationwide coverage as the Revolution’s own intelligence service!
BBC Persian language service in Teheran beamed vastly exaggerated accounts of all the latest police outrages committed against the Iranian people. The BBC became the mullahs’ megaphone for the Revolution.
By Autumn 1978 the BBC was broadcasting the interminable rants of Khomeini in their entirety across the nation.Through the BBC’s good offices the mullahs could co-ordinate demonstrations across cities thousands of miles apart countrywide.
As if this were not enough-the BBC also from December 1978 began airing psy-war black propaganda re-the Shah’s having fled the country, being insane or having abdicated in favour of his son,or all three! At one point even going so far as to report his assassination!
The Anglo-American plan for the disintegration of the Middle East was up and running.
The British role in the 1979 Iranian Revolution also extended to its employment of their allies in the Muslim Brotherhood which had imported its structures into Iran from Egypt in the 1940s.
Such was British influence with the mullahs that an old joke Rory Bremner himself might have appreciated has it that if you picked up the beard of a clergyman in Iran it would likely have stamped on the other side- “Made in England”!
As a postscript the Lord Curzon mentioned in the Bremner sketch was not only interested in the Iranian railways. He was also keen to see that the forms of Islam that came to dominate Iran were the regressive forms that were cultist, obscurantist and anti-scientific.As British governor in Egypt in the 1890s he looked forward to the time when the Bahai would replace Islam as the main faith throughout the region.
By the early years of the last century the Bahai were known throughout the region especially to the Ottoman authorities in Syria as subversive elements sponsored by British intelligence. This didn’t stop Abdul Baha being knighted by the Queen in 1918.
Formerly interned by the Turks,Baha from London travelled extensively.Everywhere he preached the abolition of nation states, national borders, and other world religions.A single world order was Baha’s goal.
The Bahais went on to secretly fund Khomeini’s movement during the revolution.
Along with the Sufi and Naqshbandi, the Bahai have been instrumental in British attempts to weaken muslim nations like Iran for generations.
At the end of the day this hidden history of secret domination is no laughing matter.
