The Easiest Target: Where Are Those Feminists?
July 22, 2007
Both the recent wars (Afghanistan, Iraq) and the coming war (Iran) have been preceded by shrill cries from establishment feminists — some of them leftists — about the plight of women in the targetted countries. Their prescription of bombs and regime change liberated some from their Burqas, a lot from their husbands, sons fathers, and innumerable others from their limbs, and in some instances heads. A good test of their sincerity is just how many of them have spoken out about the following? Are there any out there calling for an invasion of Israel to liberate these women? I can tell you — None!
The easiest targets of Israel’s murderous occupation still remain women and children. Here is The Easiest Targets: The Israeli Policy of Strip Searching Women and Children, an eye opening production from If Americans Knew. Also check out this related report.
Hello? A bit of perspective please?
Sure – these stories are appalling. They do not represent an official policy, although the official policy is bad enough. Sure, these things need to be stopped. They need to be reported, condoned, and monitored. By the way, they’re not that far off from the way American airport security treated Muslims post 9/11.
But please compare to:

If you use the word ‘murderous’ please apply it where it is relevant.
Hishaym:
Why is the word “murderous” not relevant in the sentence it is used ?, i would like to hear your thesis.
The actions portrayed in the clip are outrageous. Appalling. However, they do not include murder. Actually, now that I think of it, most of the events reported here actually occurred in the sovereign territory of the state of Israel (and not in the Palestinian territories), so the term occupation is pretty odd as well.
If you want to do something about the discrimination of Palestinians and Arabs in Israel, support the Abraham Fund: http://www.abrahamfund.org/ or Adalah: http://www.adalah.org/

Unless you are suggesting that the Israeli state has never committed murder, I don’t see the relevance of this statement. Israeli occupation is murderous in general (so is any other occupation), but unlike others it has endured.

That seems like a very curious defence — in order to delegitimize the use of the word ‘occupation’, you are conceding that the abuses inside the ‘sovereign territory of the state of Israel’ are worse? I won’t argue with that. As regards ‘occupation’, Alison Weir’s linked report speaks not just of incidents at the Israeli airport, but also in the OPT checkpoints. So I don’t see the basis for your objection.
As regards the ‘sovereign territory of the state of Israel’, the territory is sovereign, only in so far as we recognize the jurisdiction of International Law. Since Israel has refused to honour either UNSC242 or 338, there is no reason why the Palestinian who was ethnically cleansed to declare the territory ‘sovereign’ should not see it as an occupation.
