The point is democracy.

Palestians did what they were expected to do. What did the West do? Hamas could also be open for diologe. North Korea and their recently acquired mass destructive powers opened for dialoge. You mean to tell me that Hamas would never recognize Israel? For sure not current Israel. But they could discuss it. Did the West at least try?

Doesn't Israel also uses terrorist tactics?

But that's not the point. The point is the democracy. It is remarkable how the auto-proclamed defendors of democracy can disregard it so easily.

Larry - the tax monies will go to the West Bank, not Gaza. The great difficulties facing the Palestinian economy will be solved not by a Mr Clean but by an end to occupation. True Hamas doesnt recognise Israel, but Israel doesnt recognise Palestine either. And what makes you expect anyone to recognise the power that is occupying them?

It is unlikely that any Israeli government would deal with an organization who's charter expressly calls for its extinction, such as Hamas. The slaughter in Gaza may indeed have been the unavoidable result of an election that defeated the party tarnished by years of corruption, Fatah. That said, it is possible that a Mr. Clean such as Salam Fayyad who has the respect of the world community and the financial experience to systematically adddress the the great difficlties facing the Palestinian economy and its citizens may bare fruit. Since you acknowledged the fact that Israel has already agreed to release millions of witheld tax dollars progress in happening in spite of the emergence of a separate state of Hamastan. It is a time of high uncertainty. May the killings cease and negotiations continue on many fronts.
