Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention

May 22, 2007

Last saturday would have been Malcolm X’s 82nd birthday. Democracy Now! gave its whole hour today to an interview with Manning Marable, who is writing a biography of Malcolm X that promises to be the most complete account of Br. X’s extraordinary life. He presents some interesting insights regarding Alex Haley’s politics, and how it might have coloured the account of Malcom X’s biography. He has also uncovered three important chapters which were removed from the autobiography before it was published. I highly recommend watching this interview.

Earlier I had posted an excellent documentary on Malcolm X, Make it Plain. Here is Malcolm X from 1964 at the Oxford Union (at one point you can see the young Tariq Ali in the audience).
