Many thanks for the review of the Petras account of the Israeli Lobby.
For far too long the timidity of the left on this issue has allowed the pernicious and humanly disastrous effects of the Lobby's power in the US to go unchallenged.SWP in-house theorist Chris Harman decried the Mearsheimer/Walt paper as "a conspiracy theory that weakens the movement".Essentially, Harman maintains that the accusations of anti-semitism,to which such theories leave us vulnerable, are too great a threat to our credibility for us to persist with them.
As the Petras book makes clear Mearsheimer and Walt are US empire loyalists;this fact alone shows what a massively self-defeating loss of nerve so-called leftists like Harman would have us succumb to.
Moreover given the accumulating mass of evidence for the Zionist conpiracy at the heart of US politics, plus the plethora of websites challenging the preposterous nature of the official account of 9/11,isn't it time we on the left started exposing the fully fraudulent and self-interested motives that underly US/Israeli aggression in the Middle East?
A failure to do what analysts like Petras are doing, makes us guilty of an immense disservice to the hundreds of thousands of innocent victims and an abnegation of our responsibilities as social critics for which future generations will, rightly in my view, not forgive us.
