Israel’s New Allies: Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt
August 4, 2006
Ziocon hack Charles Krauthammer is scrapping the barrel once more, to pass off Israel’s enemies as America’s. The idea perhaps is once again to employ the American military as Israel’s Gurkha Regiment.
Unlike many of the other terrorist groups in the Middle East, Hezbollah is a serious enemy of the United States. In 1983 it massacred 241 American servicemen. Except for al-Qaeda, it has killed more Americans than any other terror organization.
But the more interestin part comes further down. In a belated homage to Israel’s new allies, Krauthammer reproduces the new propaganda line, according to which Saudi Arabi, a country where women are still not allowed to drive, is a “moderate” Muslim country. He writes:
The moderate pro-Western Arabs understand this very clearly. Which is why Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan immediately came out against Hezbollah and privately urged the United States to let Israel take down that organization.
Unfortunately for the “moderate arabs” of Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt, the Israeli military is no more competent than their own. In Ha’aretz, Amos Harel reports:
IAF commanders admit that Hezbollah still has thousands of Katyushas and hundreds of launchers, and the air force alone cannot deal with it…An examination of the ground forces’ achievements to date shows that they have hit no more than 10 launchers.
And then, some details from Israel’s “daring raid” on Ba’albek that the US media choose to leave out.
